Veterans Day ceremony, 11/11 @ 11AM (New Location!)

Sedgwick Middle School Principal Andrew Clapsaddle will be the guest speaker for the 2017 Veterans Day Ceremony, Saturday, November 11, 2017, 11:00 AM, at First Church of Christ Congregational meeting room, 12 South Main Street.

Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, he joined the Marine Corps after completing high school and served four years as a combat photographer.  He received an honorable discharge after his four years of service.  His father and older brother served in the Army and Marine Corps respectively.

Principal Clapsaddle received his Bachelor’s degree from Towson University and Master’s degree from California State University, San Marcos.  He has been a classroom teacher in New York and California and an assistant principal in California and Connecticut at the middle and high school levels.  He currently serves as the Principal of Sedgwick Middle School in West Hartford.

The Veterans Day ceremony includes a welcome by Patrick Harrell, Vice Commander of American Legion Hayes-Velhage Post 96, and an invocation by Deacon James Hickey, USAF, St. Peter Claver Church, and Moe Fradette of the American Legion, as emcee. The National Anthem will be sung by Sedgwick Middle School choir “Top of the Sixes” led by Melissa Dzen, music director.

In addition to the keynote message by Andrew Clapsaddle, the ceremony will also include speeches by Denise Hall, council liaison to West Hartford Commission on Veterans Affairs and Mayor Shari Cantor.

Boy Scout Troop 163 led by Chris Stimson and Graham Douglass will place the memorial wreath.

Three color guards will present: West Hartford Police Department led by commander Police Officer Christopher Chappell, West Hartford Fire Department led by commander Firefighter C. Billow, and American Legion Hayes-Velhage Post 96 led by commander Rock Goodwin.
