West Hartford placed in Top 50 Cities in the Nation!

MONEY magazine announced today West Hartford was ranked in the Top 50 Best Places to Live in the United States for towns and cities with populations of 50,000 or greater.

West Hartford earned the no. 48 spot and was the only Connecticut town that made the Top 50 list and was one of three in New England.

To compile the ranking, MONEY magazine starts with a list of all U.S. towns and cities with populations of 50,000 or greater. The pool is then drilled down to 583 cities by using 135,000 different data points in the following categories: economic health, cost of living, diversity, public education, income, crime, ease of living, and amenities. The greatest weight is placed on economic health, public school performance, and local amenities; housing, cost of living, and diversity were also critical components.

West Hartford was praised for its attractions, including its bustling downtown shopping district, restaurants and bars, hiking trails, and the majority of the 101-acre Elizabeth Park, known locally for its rose gardens. Residents also enjoy quick commute times — 19 minutes, on average — and easy access to performances by nationally touring entertainers.

Town Manager Matthew Hart said, “Being named to MONEY magazine’s list of “Best Places To Live” is a real tribute and honor for our community. It’s a testament to our diversity, healthy economy, excellent public schools, and public safety.”

“Cost of living, including housing, and access to amenities are also important criteria. I would like to thank and acknowledge our residents, businesses, and taxpayers who contribute so much to make West Hartford a special place to live, work, and play. We’re happy to welcome new residents and businesses to the neighborhood!”
