If your dog is six months or older, state law requires that you obtain a license in the town where you reside. When you apply for your license, you must include the rabies vaccination certificate issued by your veterinarian. If your dog is registered with the Town of West Hartford, please click here for the rabies expiration date that we have on file. The metal tag is not an acceptable proof of vaccination. The certificate will usually indicate whether the dog has been spayed or neutered, but if not, you'll need to present a separate certificate issued by your veterinarian.
New dog owners and dog owners who have lost or never received the renewal postcard reminder should submit the Dog License Form along with payment and a self-addressed, stamped envelope and mail to the Town Clerk's Office. If you do not have a printer, you may hand write the required information contained on the form on a separate sheet of paper and mail that in to the Town Clerk's office along with payment and a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Please remember to include current rabies vaccination paperwork and if applicable, documentation stating your dog has been spayed or neutered. We will return the license and tag promptly.
