West Hartford Building Department
A building permit is required for any new building construction, alteration or repair of an existing building, a building addition, temporary building, demolition, or pool installation. A permit is required if you plan to alter a building by cutting a portion of a wall, removing or cutting any structural beam or load bearing support, or change any required means of entering or exiting. Building and mechanical permit applications are found under resources. In accordance with the State of Connecticut Basic Building Code and the West Hartford Zoning Ordinance, permits are also required for air conditioning, heating, sprinkler, electric wiring, and plumbing.
The Building Inspection Office offers informational handouts and permits that can be downloaded to help you with your project. Click on the RESOURCES link.
While we are in the final stages of implementing our new online permitting software, permit applications can currently be accepted via mail to Building Department, 50 South Main Street, West Hartford CT 06107, or they can be dropped off in person at the Building Inspection Office, Room 208 in Town Hall.
