Status of all building permit applications can be found by going to the online portal. 

Please call the office at 860-561-7530. The Building department is open Monday - Friday, 8AM-3PM. 

The Town of West Hartford, along with all of the towns within the State of Connecticut, follow the State Building Code. The 2022 State Building Code is comprised of the following adopted model codes and the Connecticut Amendments:

• 2017 ICC/ANSI A117.1 Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities
• 2021 International Existing Building Code
• 2021 International Plumbing Code
• 2021 International Mechanical Code
• 2021 International Energy Conservation Code
• 2020 NFPA 70, National Electrical Code, of the National Fire Protection Association Inc.
• 2021 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code
• 2021 International Residential Code

It is the homeowner's responsibility to be sure their contractors have permits. The Connecticut State Statutes have penalties for violations including fines up to $1,000 and possible imprisonment. Homeowners can find information on contractor registration and licensing here.

According to the 2015 International Residential code portion of the Connecticut State Building Code, section R109.3: It shall be the duty of the permit holder or their agent to notify the building official that such work is ready for inspection.
