The Fire Marshal’s Office is a part of the Community Risk Reduction Division within the West Hartford Fire Department. The FMO provides full time service to the community and consists of a Fire Marshal, a Deputy Fire Marshal, Fire Inspector, and staff assistant.

The Office is mandated by Connecticut General Statutes to enforce the Connecticut Fire Safety Code, the Connecticut Fire Prevention Code, and to investigate the origin and cause of all fires and explosions within the town. The Fire Marshal’s Office sworn staff are trained and certified by the Connecticut Department of Public Safety and also serves as the town's local open burning officials. FMO staff may work in conjunction with other agencies such as the West Hartford Police Department, Building Department, Connecticut State Police, and the FBI in an effort to maximize resources.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is dedicated to delivering fire and life safety programs because the information we offer may result in a fire being prevented or life being saved. The FMO provides education to the public through programs in schools, elderly housing facilities, at public gatherings, and upon request.
