Our goal is to provide superior customer service and integrated emergency response to any situation that threatens the life, safety and well-being of people and property.

The department consists of 95 staff and suppression personnel. There are five (5) fire stations that house two engine companies and three combination engine-ladder companies (quint). The department provides service in the areas of fire prevention and education, fire suppression, fire investigation, heavy rescue, handling hazardous materials incidents, fire inspections, code enforcement and emergency medical service. The department is also a vital link in the emergency management (civil preparedness) services provided in the community.

Our commitment and compassion extends to all our divisions; Operations, Fire Prevention, Training, Maintenance, and Administration.

I am honored to represent the fine men and women who provide high quality fire marshal, firefighting, rescue, and advanced life support emergency medical services to our community. As the world changes, our fundamental mission of firefighting has evolved beyond “traditional” fire/rescue services. Our goal is to reduce risk within the community through outreach, inspections, and public education while simultaneously being prepared to respond to whatever emergency may present. Our staff are fully career and are geographically located in fire stations across the Town of West Hartford, on-duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

It is a privilege to lead a progressive fire department that continuously works hard to meet the needs of its community. As with any customer-driven organization, we are constantly evaluating the best and most efficient ways to deliver high quality service. If I can be of assistance in addressing concerns or providing additional information about our department, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly.

Respectfully,

Fire Chief Greg H. Priest
