Winterize! Immunize! Get Your Flu Shot!
Influenza is a serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and sometimes even death. Since every flu season is different, an annual immunization is recommended. The West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District holds public flu immunization clinics each Fall in West Hartford and Bloomfield.
The Center for Disease Control states, “Annual vaccination against influenza is the primary means for minimizing serious adverse outcomes from influenza virus infections. People in high-risk groups such as those with chronic disease of the heart, lung, kidneys, diabetes, and those with immuno-suppression should also get a flu shot.” If you live with anyone in the high-risk groups, you should also get the flu shot. If you are unsure whether or not you are at risk, contact your physician.
The Health District will bill your health insurance carrier for those with Medicare Part B, ConnectiCare/Medicare Product, CIGNA, Aetna, all Anthem clients age 18 and older. For all others, the fee for the flu vaccine is $30.
All clinics are walk-in, no appointments necessary. For more information, contact the West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District at 860-561-7900, press 0 to be connected with someone in our office.
