Housing Rehabilitation

The Housing Rehabilitation Program provides financial and technical assistance to eligible West Hartford homeowners to reduce lead hazards, correct housing code violations and remove architectural barriers that restrict the mobility and accessibility of handicapped household members.

The Housing Rehabilitation Division is committed to improving the condition of residential properties throughout West Hartford. The staff works closely with eligible homeowners, informing them of the various opportunities available for home improvements.

Maintaining quality housing is a high priority in West Hartford. Funding to improve residential properties is available to eligible homeowners through the town's Housing Rehabilitation program.

The Town of West Hartford's Housing Rehabilitation Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)

The purpose of the Housing Rehabilitation Program is to provide financial and technical assistance to eligible West Hartford homeowners to make necessary improvements to their homes.

Financial assistance in the combined form of a grant and a low interest loan (Lifetime Mortgage Deed) may be available to qualified owners.  The Lifetime Mortgage is to be repaid in one lump sum (with any accrued interest) upon sale or transfer of any interest in the property. Partial payments are not allowed.

If you own and occupy residential property in West Hartford, and fall within the income guidelines, the Town of West Hartford's Housing Rehabilitation Division may be able to assist you in making necessary repairs to your home. The gross household income must be at or below 80% of median income for Hartford PMSA as prescribed by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  An example of house repairs are;

  • Replace your roof
  • Replace your heating system
  • Replace your water heater
  • Upgrade your electrical panel
  • Repair or replace plumbing
  • Help get a ramp in your house
  • Remove Asbestos
  • Replace old windows with high efficiency windows

The Town of West Hartford is committed to assuring equal access to programs, activities and services to all individuals. The Town will work actively to comply with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

If you know of someone who may be interested in or eligible for the Housing Rehabilitation Program, please ask them to call 860-561-7562.
