Rockledge Winter Trails - open only when golf course is closed
You can walk, jog, cross country ski, or snowshoe on the winter trails at Rockledge Golf Club. Trails are only open when the golf course is closed for the safety of the public. Click here for a map.
Choose from the yellow trail (.6 mile); the red trail (1.6 miles); or the blue trail (2.2 miles.) The yellow and red trails are for walking and jogging. The blue trail can also be used for cross country skiing or snowshoeing (weather permitting.) Please note that cross country skiers must blaze their own trail along the side of the existing marked trail.
All three trails start at the Rockledge Pro Shop and are clearly marked with colored markers spaced .1 mile apart so following the trails is safe and easy.
Trail Guidelines
- Park only in the Rockledge Golf Club parking lot off South Main Street.
- Trails are open from dawn to dusk every day.
- Trails start and end at the Pro Shop. Do not cut across greens to reach trails.
- Stay on the designated trails to avoid hazardous areas and prevent damage to the greens and tees.
- Bicycles, snowmobiles, ATVs, and motorized vehicles of any kind ARE NOT ALLOWED.
- Dog waste must be bagged and removed from the area.
Trout Brook
Trout Brook Trail is West Hartford’s long-term greenway project that provides walkers, runners, and bicyclists a safe, enjoyable route to exercise, commute, and explore. This paved path is now complete as initially envisioned. It follows Trout Brook from New Park Avenue to Asylum Avenue, stretching almost 4 miles at up to 10 feet wide.
Trail Access
Convenient parking for trail access can be found at the Elmwood Community Center’s lower lot, the Beachland Park lot adjacent to Quaker Lane South, or Norfeldt Field on Boulevard. Trail entrances are marked at select locations, including: the trailhead on New Park Avenue at the bridge over Trout Brook, in the Elmwood Community Center lower parking lot, the northwest and southeast corners of the Quaker Lane South bridge over Trout Brook, near Jackson Avenue, at Farmington Avenue and Trout Brook Drive, at Fern Street and Trout Brook Drive, and near Duffield Drive at Trout Brook Drive.
Development Projects
Future extensions of the trail are currently in various stages of design and planning. Information about future projects will be posted to the town Engineering web page. Anyone interested in obtaining additional information or wishing to provide input, may do so by contacting the Engineering Division at 860-561-7540.
Westmoor Park
The trails and park grounds are open for walking and passive recreation from 7:00 a.m. to dusk.
The handicapped accessible, gravel surfaced, self guided nature trail loop is measured beginning and ending from the gate at the lower/south end of the parking lot. All other trail distances are measured from their connection with the gravel surfaced trail loop.
