West Hartford

Parks & Pools

West Hartford has five major neighborhood parks conveniently located throughout town. Designed for the recreational enjoyment of people of all ages, the parks have playground apparatus, picnic tables, pools, tennis courts, basketball courts, athletic fields and restrooms. There are no grills available. You may bring your own charcoal grill - but please, clean up carefully afterwards. (Gas grills are not allowed.)

Four out of the five parks have outdoor pools. Summer pool programs include recreational and adult lap swims, and lessons for swimmers of all skill levels. The pools operate on a fee basis, and are open to the public from the end of June through mid August.  Only cash or check is accepted at the pools.

Our rental policy states that the parks are available for rental during the months before and after the pools are open, making them popular places for individuals to hold meetings, parties, sports events and other functions. For information on permits, click here

The Town offers short and long term field permits for organizations to use town fields and parks. A completed permit must be sent to the Leisure Services Manager for approval.

Elizabeth Park is owned and operated by the City of Hartford, and the gardens are maintained by the Elizabeth Park Conservancy. The park is located at the corner of Prospect Avenue and Asylum Avenue. Please visit www.elizabethparkct.org for more information on the gardens and free programs.

Town Ordinances Parks and Dogs

This is a reminder that it is unlawful for any person to take any dog into any park or playground, except on a leash not longer than (6) fee or to permit any pet to go into any active play area, apparatus area, athletic field, or recreational enclosure or building unless said pet is participating in a program sponsored by the town (Town Ordinance, Section 128-3).  Also, all dog owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs.
