Friends of West Hartford Parks is a grassroots organization dedicated to preserving, enhancing, and supporting the network of neighborhood parks through advocacy, stewardship, and education.

The West Hartford Dog Park Coalition is a group of volunteers working with town leaders to find land to build a free, permanent dog park for West Hartford, Connecticut. The WHDPC organizes dog-related activities, including walking in parades, pop up dog park events, and the annual Pooch Plunge in August.

This is a reminder that it is unlawful for any person to take any dog into any park or playground, except on a leash not longer than (6) fee or to permit any pet to go into any active play area, apparatus area, athletic field, or recreational enclosure or building unless said pet is participating in a program sponsored by the town (Town Ordinance, Section 128-3).  Also, all dog owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs.

The West Hartford Garden Club works to improve and beautify our community by stimulating interest and creative activity in the art of gardening and floral design, enhancing the beauty of our community, contributing to civic improvement and working for the conservation of native plants and wildlife.

The Miracle League of CT is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to providing recreational and sporting opportunities for children with physical and or cognitive challenges at accessible facilities. They are dedicated to the ideal that “every child deserves a chance to play”.

After significant fundraising efforts, the Miracle League of CT was able to build a Miracle League Field in West Hartford. The Miracle League Field is fully wheelchair accessible, and was the first of its kind in New England. It is located within the existing West Hartford Little League complex, at the corner of Asylum Avenue and Trout Brook Drive. In addition to the Field, a fully accessible playground was also built within the complex. Ongoing projects include hosting accessible family events, as well as the development and construction of further Miracle League Fields around the state. One of the oldest birding clubs in the country, the Hartford Audubon Society offers a wealth of field trips, stimulating talks and opportunities to share in the camaraderie of the vibrant and knowledgeable community of birders.

The Traprock Ridge Land Conservancy was formed in April 2023 from the merger of East Granby Land Trust, West Hartford Land Trust, and Wintonbury Land Trust (Bloomfield).  In 2024, Windsor Land Trust was added, becoming the newest part of the Conservancy. With a regional approach and shared resources, they help our communities protect the environment, preserve local farms, and connect residents with the outdoors from the ridgeline to the rivers. The land trust’s mission includes protecting the traprock ridge shared by the four towns and the Salmon Brook, Farmington River, Park River, and the Connecticut River watersheds. The Traprock Ridge Land Conservancy protects 45 properties covering 642 acres, and includes forest land, wetlands, meadows, and active farms.
