Tree Action Group
The West Hartford Tree Action Group aims to assess, conserve, monitor, and grow West Hartford’s tree canopy; educate all residents about the importance of trees; and build local stewardship of West Hartford’s urban trees. TAG accomplishes these goals by Town-approved independent actions, and ongoing collaboration with town governance, schools, local businesses and non-profit organizations, and community volunteers.
Current and ongoing projects include the following:
- West Hartford Tree Project distributes free potted trees, tree plugs, and seedlings annually each April
- Invasive plant removals in Town Parks
- Lead educational tree tours of the Westmoor Arboretum
- Educational activities to teach the community about the importance of trees
Upcoming new projects include the following:
- Facilitate an urban tree canopy study of West Hartford
- Facilitate a tree inventory of trees on Town-owned properties and right of way
- Develop educational signage
The Tree Action Group is comprised of members of the community and Town staff, who collaboratively serve as the Town of West Hartford’s Urban Forestry Advisory Group. We seek to represent diverse voices and neighborhoods of Town. All are welcome.
