Special Needs Recreation
Leisure Services Special Needs Program provides a full array of high quality recreational programs designed specifically for children, teens and adults with special needs. While most of the programs are operated at Elmwood Community Center, inclusion assistance is provided for those wishing to enroll in a class or program offered at other Town of West Hartford facilities.
Conversations regarding inclusive recreation and associated needs must take place with the Special Needs Program Coordinator at least two weeks prior to class start date. Information and referral services are also offered for those with needs that can be best addressed by regional programming or services.
The Special Needs Program also plans a range of social and entertainment opportunities throughout the year.

Accessibility and Inclusion Support Services
The Town of West Hartford Leisure Services Division is committed to ensuring that all individuals have equal access to its programs, services, meetings, and activities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). In support of this commitment, efforts are made to ensure that individuals with disabilities can participate meaningfully in community life through inclusive and responsive recreational programs tailored to their individual needs.
Inclusion support services are available to individuals of all ages with disabilities, medical conditions, or other life challenges. These services may include reasonable accommodations, auxiliary aids, and services, such as communication assistance, all designed to help ensure participation in recreational programming and services.
To facilitate the coordination of support services in Leisure Services programs, requests for accommodations or inclusion support are most effective when submitted as early as possible, ideally at least two (2) weeks before the start of a program or event.
For more information or to request assistance, please contact, Dani Brown, Special Needs and Inclusion Support Coordinator via email or by phone number 860-561-8160.
