Plant a Row for the Hungry
If you are starving for a chance to make a difference in your community, help to take a bite out of hunger - sink your teeth into plant-a-row for the hungry!
You’ll reap a cornucopia of rewards!!
Join us for fun, friendship and community service at Westmoor Park. We have dedicated our organic vegetable garden to a nationwide project known as Plant-a-Row for the Hungry. Plant A Row for the Hungry is a national public service campaign initiated by the Garden Writers Association of America in 1995. Westmoor Park has designated a 1/2 acre for this dynamic program that integrates the community to volunteer to organically grow vegetables and herbs. The produce grown is donated to a local shelter in Hartford, as well as the senior centers in town. Many hands are needed to make this a successful program. Planting begins in April and the work continues through October.
Congratulations, Jane!
Westmoor Park's Plant A Row gardens were featured on episode #1910 of ‘Gardening by the Yard,’ with Master Gardener Paul James a national TV show on HGTV! Many thanks to those who participated in the filming of this special, including garden volunteers, summer campers, and of course, Star the cow!
