Planning & Zoning

The Planning and Zoning Division is responsible for the administration of the West Hartford Zoning Regulations, as well as the review and coordination of all land use applications.

The Planning & Zoning office is open 8AM to 4:30PM. 

Effective February 6th, Planning and Zoning Staff will be available to the general public, without appointment, Monday to Friday, 8:30AM to 12:30PM.  Appointments will be required from 12:30PM to 4PM until further notice.

West Hartford's New CityView Permit Portal

We are pleased to offer our citizens, businesses, and visitors access to our new online permitting portal.  

Permit applicants will now be required to use our CityView Permit Online Portal for all submissions.

  • Apply for building, zoning, and engineering permits
  • Register as a Contractor
  • Submit land use applications
  • Track project status
  • View permit status
  • Receive real-time inspection results
  • Pay all fees online  

To use all the services and features the online portal offers, you must register and create a user account.  Users can log-on and work on the permit over a period of time.  Information is saved after each visit so users can pick-up where they previously left off. Important documents can be uploaded and fees are automatically and correctly calculated. Users complete the transaction with a credit card payment. Once the permit is submitted, users can log-on and track its progress. A history of all transactions are kept in the users account.  

A computer kiosk is available in each of the three offices so people can apply for a permit in person.  Staff is happy to assist and answer questions.
