Covid-19 Update

Town Hall has reopened for in-person transactions by appointment only. The Planning & Zoning Division will also utilize  the customer service window outside of the Building Division (adjacent to the south entrance of the building) for routine transactions. Appoints will be for critical needs that can only be accomplished in-person. Drop-in visits will not be permitted.

Town departments continue to operate, providing services to residents and businesses. Most transactions can be conducted on our website, by phone, email and postal mail. Please direct all Planning and Zoning related inquiries for service to be conducted via email with Todd Dumais, Town Planner, or via phone at 860-561-7555.

The Planning and Zoning Division is responsible for the administration of the West Hartford Zoning Regulations, as well as the review and coordination of all land use applications.

Plan Review & Permitting

The Planning Office reviews all planned development requiring site plan approval, special use permits, wetland permits, zoning permits, lot splits, lot line revisions, subdivisions, special development district approvals and building permits that may include building expansions or change of use.

Zoning Enforcement

The Zoning Office enforces the zoning code of the Town of West Hartford and staffs and administers the actions of the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA).

Administrative Support to the Commissions

The Planning & Zoning Division provides administrative support to the Town Plan and Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Agency, and the Design Review Advisory Committee.  These Town Council appointed commissions approve subdivisions, special use permits, wetland permits and advises Town Council on zoning changes.
