Textile Recycling

There are two options for textile recycling in West Hartford

1.  Curbside pick-up:

Place textiles (and other items, listed below) at curb and call Simple Recycling at 866-835-5068 to schedule a pick up. Textiles can be in any bag. Simple Recycling no longer hands out pink bags.

2. Drop off:

Bring textiles (and other items, listed below) to the Yard Waste and Recycling Center at 25 Brixton Street and place in the Bay State Textile Bin (annual permit required)

Did you know?

Textiles comprise of about 5% of Municipal Solid Waste. According to Bay State Textiles, 95 percent of textiles can be reused or recycled, but Connecticut residents are only recycling 15 percent of all unwanted textiles. Every year in Connecticut, over 200 million pounds of textiles are disposed of at incinerators or landfills.

As an added bonus, the town will receive a $100 rebate from Bay State Textiles for each ton of textiles recycled.

  • Items that can be recycled include: bed sheets, pillow cases, blankets, comforters, belts, boots, coats, curtains, draperies, dresses, flip flops, hats, jackets, jeans, jerseys, pajamas, pants, purses, shirts, shoes, shorts, skirts, socks, stuffed animals, suits, sweaters, sweatpants, sweatshirts, table linens, ties, and undergarments.

Worn, torn, ripped, and stained items are also acceptable.

"With good stewardship of our waste, by diverting these items from the general waste stream, the town will see lower waste disposal cost," noted John Phillips.

The Yard Waste and Recycling Center is located at 25 Brixton St. A valid residential yard waste and recycling permit is required to use this service.

The hours of operation are Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 3:00 pm; and Saturday 7:00 am - 12:00 pm, April -December.  Closed on Sunday. January through March the Recycling Center is closed on Saturday.
