About our Fitness Center

The fitness center is located at 1106 New Britain Ave. Lower level of Elmwood Community Center. The hours are (Note, hours are subject to change. Please call 860-561-8180 to confirm):

The Fitness Center offers individually and medically based exercise programs for adults ages 55 and over.  Some benefits of exercise include:
  • Increased muscular strength, cardiovascular endurance and flexibility
  • Increased bone density and lean muscle tissue
  • Improved balance, gait, and stair climbing abilities

Our trained Fitness Coordinator and Fitness Specialists oversee the program, provide individual training,  measure individual progress, encourage goal setting and work with you to help you meet your fitness goals.

Using the right equipment is critical for reaching your physical fitness goals.  All of the Fitness Centers’ equipment has been selected based on scientific research and thorough evaluation.  We offer Recumbent Bikes,  Airdyne Bikes, Upper Body Ergometer, Elliptical , Treadmills, Dumbbells, Recumbent Stepper, and  Nautilus strength training machines.

Fitness Center Individual Membership Costs

To join the Fitness Center, you must be age 55 or older and must be a member of either Elmwood Senior Center or the Bishops Corner Senior Center. Fitness Center Memberships are interchangeable at both Senior Centers. The fees are $60 for three months, $90 for six months and $150 for one year.

How to Join

You may stop by the Fitness Centers to pick up the required paperwork, which includes a Medical History Form and a Medical Approval Form to be filled out and signed by your physician or health care professional. Once all the forms are completed and submitted, our Fitness Coordinator will contact you to schedule your individual orientation session. Together, you'll formulate a personalized exercise plan that will guide you through your exercise sessions.
