Food Pantry

West Hartford Social Services maintains a large, well-stocked food pantry of non-perishable food items. Residents are eligible to use the food pantry once a month as needed. In order to use the food pantry, residents will need to provide a photo ID and a recent utility bill or piece of mail, showing a West Hartford address. Additional information such as income and household size, may also be required and can be discussed with a staff member. 

There will be no food distribution on the following days:

Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, 2020
Day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 27, 2020

Residents may use the food pantry once per month to receive a pre-packed bag of groceries containing healthy, essential food items. Bags of food can be picked up:

Tuesday 3:30 PM -5:30 PM
Wednesday 9:00 AM-11:00 AM 
Friday 10:00 AM -12 :OO PM

Curbside Food Distribution is located in front of the Town Hall’s main doors (near the parking lot and flag poles).

  • Baked Beans - especially vegetarian options

  • Pasta Sauce - especially "meat  free" options
  • Spaghetti
  • Peanut Butter - 16 oz. to 18 oz. jars
  • Jelly
  • Soup - especially vegetarian options
  • Canned Vegetables
  • Macaroni & Cheese
  • Baking mixes - brownies, cookies, cake, muffins, etc.
  • Granola Bars & Cookies
  • Toilet Paper
  • Toothpaste
  • Laundry & Dish Detergent

NOTE:  Currently, we are only providing pre-packed bags to our clients, therefore we prefer that you donate staple items from this list. We are always in need of gluten free, low sugar, and low sodium items.

Foodshare

The Food Pantry partners with Foodshare to provide residents with fresh produce and other foods. There are several locations in West Hartford where Foodshare's mobile food van, delivers fresh produce and other foods once a month. Time vary by location. Anyone is eligible to visit any location and only need to bring his/her own bags. ID is NOT required.

  • Mobile Foodshare brings perishable foods including fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy, meat, and bread directly to people in need.
  • The service is available to everyone 16yrs + older.
  • Truck schedule varies by site: 2 or 4 weeks. 
  • No ID is needed.
