Volunteer programs are a vital part of the community. Below are a list of volunteer opportunities within Social Services. For more opportunities outside of Social Services visit our Volunteer web page.
Grocery Shopping - Volunteers grocery shop weekly for elders who are homebound and residents with a disability.
Medical Escort Transportation - Volunteers drive seniors who do not have adequate alternative transportation to local routine medical appointments.
Friendly Visitor - Volunteers provide elderly residents with friendship, socialization, and support through regular visits to their homes.
Telephone Reassurance - From home or in our office, volunteers make weekly phone calls to homebound elders to alleviate isolation and loneliness.
Tutoring - Help children in grades K-8 after school in the homework center, or work 1-on-1 with adults at the Hillcrest Area Neighborhood Outreach Center.
West Hartford's Food Pantry - Help sort, date check, and shelve donated food that benefits the town's food pantry. Organize food drives to benefit the pantry. Volunteers are needed to distribute food bags outside Town Hall.
