West Hartford Launches 250 Task Force
The United States of America turns 250 in 2026. Across our nation, towns, cities, and states will be reflecting on the past, present, and future of our democracy. America 250 and Connecticut 250 committees have been working to guide how our local communities can mold their own commemorations.
The Town of West Hartford with the support of local community organizations invites members of our community to be a part of the planning. West Hartford believes in the power of community and wants to showcase the town’s unique contributions to the state of Connecticut and the nation in our diverse stories, community engagement, and deep understanding of what democracy means and how it manifests itself in our town.
The resounding message from our state's Connecticut 250 committee is to engage in dialogue that is empathetic and out of mutual respect for our experiences. West Hartford wholeheartedly supports this sentiment. Our goal over the upcoming years is to create educational and cultural opportunities that dive into diverse stories of the American experience and host community conversations and programs that reflect on our nation's past. We will also partner with local organizations and experts to bring our local history alive through art, civic, and community engagement opportunities. Most importantly, we will work for the common good in hopes of inspiring Americans to renew and strengthen our daring experiment in democracy.
